Inaugural lecture of the Junior Professorship (CPJ) in "Literature and Ecology"

Conférence

"Can we conceive of an ecopoetics for literature prior to the XIXᵉ century?" by Louis-Patrick Bergot Junior Professor in "Literature and Ecology"

January 19 at 5:00 p.m. in the Ourisson Amphitheatre (Institut Le Bel).

The purpose of this inaugural lecture is to present the work of the Junior Professorship in "Literature and Ecology". A state of the research will be presented, both for Anglo-Saxon ecocriticism (1978-2022) and for Francophone ecopoetics (2008-2022). For several years now, ecocriticism has been addressing literature prior to the XIXᵉ century, whereas ecopoetics has been focusing more on the literature of the XXᵉ and XXIᵉ centuries. Through a selection of texts (Jean de Léry, Du Bartas, Descartes, Pascal, Voltaire, etc.), we will try to show that the study of ancient texts, from the Middle Ages to the XVIIIᵉ century, allows us to nourish and renew our reflection on the relationship between man and nature.
